About Us
In 2006 there were a group of us in Narangba and surrounding areas who occasionally ran together. Some of us were members of the local Deception Bay Amateur Athletics Club, the Caboolture Road Runners or the then Aussie Crawl Triathlon Club. Others weren’t members of any Club and preferred to keep it that way. The word was spread by email but eventually the numbers dropped off to the point where we rarely got together. In 2007 Joe and I decided to get the runs going again and roped a couple of others into joining us regularly. I threw a basic website together and advertised the group where I could and we have managed to keep it going to date.
Sometimes there are 8 or more of us while at other times there might just be 2 who turn up. We then added Sunday rides to the schedule and sometimes our packs were 8 strong and rode up to 80km. A few of us even dabbled with Triathlons at this point. This year (2008) we also added some more variety with a couple of night trail runs and a Mt Mee run occasionally. Numbers are still only modest but growing and there is always someone who turns up to run. I don’t see myself as being the group leader however I have taken on the role of coordinating our activities to some extent and establishing a website and calendar so the running community can at least find us. The decision about where or how far we run once we get together is always up to the group.
It’s important to note that Narangba Runners is not a club, just a group of locals getting together for mutual benefit. We therefore have no insurance and can’t take responsibility for individual safety although we do operate on the principle of “safety in numbers”. A few of us are members of other running clubs in the region, however our aim is to complement, not compete with these clubs. Originally most of the runs started from either the Narangba or Burpengary railway stations, the Sheepstation Creek Environmental Park or the Deception Bay foreshore and were typically held on Saturday mornings at 7:00 am and Tuesday evenings at 6:30 pm. In early 2009 the Saturday runes weren’t well attended so they were discontinued as a weekly activity and we introduced instead a Thursday evening run at North Lakes from 6:30pm. At the time of writing these were just starting to gather some momentum.
While most of our activities centre around running we are open to other fitness based activities like road cycling, mountain biking or anything else that’s not too extreme. Basically, if a couple of people are prepared to organise an activity - it’s on!
To find out where the next run is, please visit the calendar.
If you would like further information, please just send us an email.
See you at a run, Ron and Joe
Please note that the Narangba Runners activities are community based and organised by local residents who just want the security and company of training with a group. We are not a registered Club, Association or Community Group and therefore are not covered by any liability insurance. While all care will be taken by the group to plan safe courses, running on roads comes with some risk and no responsibility can be taken for incidents involving individuals. It is also the responsibly of runners to ensure they have the necessary fitness to participate. We expect that runners under 18 years of age be accompanied by a running adult.
